Jim Flyzik

Jim Flyzik is the President of TheFlyzikGroup www.theflyzikgroup.com . The company specializes in Strategic Business Consulting, Performance Based Contracting Consulting and Training and Thought Leadership media events. The company assists small, medium and large companies in providing world-class government services. Jim also serves as the Chairman of the Information Technology Association of America Committee on Homeland Security. Jim also hosts the monthly radio program, The Federal Executive Forum on WFED 1050 AM and www.federalnewsradio.com .

Jim served over 27 years in the federal government. He served as Senior Advisor to Governor Ridge in the White House Office of Homeland Security (OHS). He provided advice to OHS on the National Strategy and Information Management in support of the OHS mission. From February 1998 until December 2002, Jim also served as the Vice Chair of the Federal Government CIO Council overseeing numerous governmentwide IT initiatives. He was also a member of the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board.

Prior to this, from August 1997 until April 2002, Jim was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Systems and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Department of the Treasury. He provided oversight, strategic planning and management direction on over $3.0 billion in annual information technology and information infrastructure programs within Treasury and its fourteen Bureaus. Jim also served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Management for the Treasury Department from January 20, 2001 until February 8, 2002. In that role he provided oversight of all Treasury bureaus and served as the principal policy advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on matters involving the internal management of the Department and its bureaus. Jim received the Secretary Certificate of Appreciation on February 12, 2002 for his efforts during this transition period.

Prior to his Treasury positions, Jim worked for 15 years at the U.S. Secret Service where he held key IT management positions, including the Chief of the Communications Division, providing world class telecommunications in support of Secret Service tactical and operational requirements.


Jim served as Team Leader on Vice President Gore's National Performance Review (NPR) Information Technology Team. Following this assignment, he was selected as Chairman of the Government Information Technology Services Working Group, to implement the NPR Information Technology recommendations and coordinate the government services portion of the National Information Infrastructure (NII). He was given the prestigious Eagle Award as the government information technology executive of the year in 1994, a Meritorious Presidential Rank Award in 1995, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award for Excellence in Information Technology in 1996, the AFFIRM Award for Outstanding Service to the Citizens in 1997, the Industry Advisory Council Award for Special Achievements and Leadership in 1997, the AFFIRM IRM Executive of the Year Award in 1998, and the Distinguished Rank Executive Award from President Clinton in 1999. In 2001 the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils presented him the John J. Franke award for outstanding government service. In March 2002, Jim was selected by the Federal CIO Council to receive the Azimuth Award as the Government Executive of the Year.

Jim has extensive public speaking experience and frequently serves as a featured speaker at industry events. He has developed, and currently teaches part-time, a graduate level course on Information Systems Security and Risk Assessment at the University of Maryland. Jim was given the Stanley J. Drazek Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998 by the University of Maryland.

Jim has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Computer Science and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland with an area of concentration in Information Systems Management.




Dr. Joseph Kielman

Dr. Joseph Kielman is the Basic/Futures Research thrust area lead within the Command, Control and Interoperability Division (CID) of the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In addition to his efforts for CID, he currently manages Centers of Excellence for the Directorate's Office of University Programs. From 2003 to 2006, he was Director of the Threat Awareness Portfolio at S&T.

Prior to joining DHS, Dr. Kielman worked for 20 years at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). During his career at the FBI, he served as Chief of the Advanced Technology Group in the Engineering Section, Chief of Research and Development for the Technical Services Division, and Chief Scientist and also Chief Architect at the Information Resources Division successively. Dr. Kielman worked for the American Society for Testing and Materials, MCI Communications, and the Department of Health and Human Services prior to joining the FBI.

He currently serves on the Advisory Committees for the National Security Directorate, the Environmental Biomarkers Initiative, and the Data-Intensive Computing Initiative for the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and is Co-Chair for the White House National Science and Technology Council's Subcommittee on Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences. He also recently served as chair of the Homeland Security Initiative Advisory Committee for PNNL.

Dr. Kielman has an undergraduate degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biophysics. His postdoctoral research was focused on genetics. He is the recipient of a 2006 Presidential Rank Award.




Cynthia Krohmal
Director

Cindy Krohmal has served as the Director, Capital Asset Management Service in the Office of Asset Enterprise Management (OAEM) at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) since 2003. She is tasked by the VA Real Property Officer with establishing, analyzing, monitoring and reporting on VA's portfolio of capital assets.

In that role, she coordinates real property asset management efforts both internally and externally to VA. Ms. Krohmal lead efforts to implement Capital Asset Management System (CAMS), VA's portfolio management and decision support tool for real property. For improved reporting and performance analysis, a Business Intelligence Solution is scheduled for completion in March 2009.

Ms. Krohmal has key responsibilities resulting from Executive Order 13327, Federal Real Property Asset Management signed in February 2004. She is VA's representative to the Federal Real Property Council (FRPC) Asset Management Plan Committee and Inventory and Performance Measures Committee. She has responsibility for VA's Real Property Scorecard and, in general, increasing agency accountability and improved performance through establishment of real property goals and metrics. She was instrumental in VA's attaining "green" as early as 2006. She is a leader and active participant in VA efforts, ranging from facility infrastructure repair and condition improvements to energy metering.

Ms. Krohmal has over twenty-five years of management experience. She served five years as a Director in the Office of Information and Technology, the VA Chief Information Office (CIO). Ms. Krohmal was instrumental in implementation of Clinger-Cohen and Capital Planning at the VA. She led the VA CIO Investment Panel, a cross-organizational team, tasked by the VA CIO with development of the VA IT Strategic Plan and VA IT Portfolio and served as a member of the VA Capital Investment Panel evaluating all types of capital assets on behalf of the Strategic Management Council.

Ms. Krohmal is a Leadership VA (LVA) 2000 graduate and an Industry Advisory Council (IAC) Partners Program Alumni.

In 2001, Ms.Krohmal received a FOSE Technology Leadership Award. She received the "Federal 100" Award in 2002.

Ms. Krohmal has a BS degree from the University of Maryland and is an Advanced Management Program graduate of National Defense University's IRM College




Porter Shomo

Porter Shomo brings more than fourteen years of high-tech sales and management experience to Cognos, and is the Director of the Federal Sales Division.

Mr. Shomo's extensive track record of sales leadership includes over a decade of record-breaking annual growth. Porter has been instrumental in driving revenue-based initiatives and has developed key business relationships to strengthen Cognos' leadership position in the Performance Management and Business Intelligence industry.

Prior to Cognos, Mr. Shomo was the leading federal account executive for four years at Logic Works, Inc.

Porter earned a BS in Business Administration from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond.




Joel Brunson
President
TANDBERG Federal

Joel Brunson is President of TANDBERG's Federal division, a leading global provider of visual communication products and services to the federal government. His current responsibilities include aligning resources to right-size the distribution model for delivery of the TANDBERG solutions to the Federal Government, full profit and loss ownership, and the establishment of new alliances.

Prior to this assignment, Joel was Vice President of Federal for Avaya for three years.

From 1988 through 2003, Joel held various management roles in public sector sales, field finance and operations at Storage Technology Corporation.

Mr. Brunson is currently an active member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronic Association (AFCEA), an organization focused on bridging together government requirements and industry capabilities.

In 1983 Mr. Brunson received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and in 1983 received his MBA in Finance from Loyola College in 1987.

Joel and his wife, Sue, have been married for 23 years. They have two children, Adam and Alexis and currently reside in Ellicott City, MD.





David Smith
Solutions Engineering Architect
Citrix Federal

David Smith leads the federal systems engineering team for Citrix Systems and has over 10 years of engineering experience. For the past 8 years, David has worked with government customers to implement Citrix application delivery solutions in support of their continuity of operations, information security, green IT, and telework initiatives. Prior to Citrix, David worked in the NASA Software Assurance Technology Center leading efforts to improve the security and reliability of applications developed for NASA programs. David has a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Loyola College in Maryland.
